The learning pyramid, also called the “cone of learning,” is an education model theorizing that some teaching methods help students remember information more than others. The more intense the students engage with the content the better their ability to remember.
Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.
- Learning takes effort. If you only consume content, you will hardly be able to remember and actively recall it
- You need to engage with the new insights in one way or another to make them your own
- The deeper your engagement, the better your understanding and your ability to actively recall and reproduce the new insights
- Listening a lecture, watching a video or reading are only the first step to learn something new
- Seeing a demonstration or discussing the content furthers your understanding and retention
- Practicing or teaching the learned concepts completes your journey and ensures that the new content becomes your own
